The Blake Girls Lacrosse Team looks to keep up their good start to the 2018 spring season under fourth year head coach Allison Baisey.

The team kicked off the season strong by beating rival Paint Branch 20-6, which included 10 goals from junior Caroline Via. Following that game, the team won their next two beating Seneca Valley and Watkins Mill.

The girls have looked excellent out on the field. Coach Baisey believes the team has great communication on the field and is eager to learn new game strategies.

The team has excellent team chemistry this season. They all worked really well together as a team at the beginning of this year's Girls Lacrosse Season. Senior midfielder Jillian Benjoar says “We are really able to connect on the field during some games and able to talk and communicate very well to pass and shoot.”

“ I think that we definitely have bonded as a team and that definitely helps us on the field. The friendships we made last for more connections,” senior attack Elaine Kaplan adds.

Off the field, the team is bonding excellently. “I really love the text from our group chat that we have for our team. We are all pretty much very uplifting and push each other to go ahead and do our best and play our hardest,” senior defensive low Lianny Cruz said.

Before each game Coach Baisey prepares the team by sending them a gameday email that consists of a motivational quote to get the girls ready for the game later. As the day goes by and it gets close to gametime, Coach Baisey gathers the team and has them close their eyes and imagine their game plan for that specific game. The team really responds to this tactic.

Not only does Baisey motivate them for games, the girls motivate each other and themselves as well. “I as well as well the rest of the team, we wrote our goals on our arms, so we can look down and think about them during a game and we just talk about our goals in a circle and that helps us,” Kaplan said.

The team hopes to overcome their rough season last spring of 5-8 by beating all the teams that they lost to and improve their record. The team is still working towards this goal with a 3-4 record.

Come out and support the Bengals Girls Lacrosse Team at the their next home game against Poolesville, Monday, April 23 at 7 PM. Keep up the the great work girls.
